(Foreigner Experience) "Eating Pupa" in Daejeon, Korea :)

Pupa is a little bit disgusting. :)

But I like to eat pupa ("뻔데기", "Ppundaeki").  I used to eat pupa since when I was young.

Many koreans similar to me like to eat pupa. But not all, of course. Some koreans hate to eat pupa.

 

Actually eating pupa is better than eating some bugs in Southern Asian countries like Cambodia, Vietnam.

Slightly less disgusting... Haha~

 

Anyway most foreigners know there are some weird eating habits in Korea unlike other western countries.

 

Number one is eating dog meat. It's terrible eating habit to pet lovers.  :(

Nowadays many dog restaurants closed. But they still exist all over the country.

Of course there are some dog restaurants in Daejeon city too.

Number two is eating pupa. It's less terrible eating habit compared to eating dog.

Because even though there are many pet lovers, there are no pupa lovers. :D

 

So to some foreigners who want to experience special eating habit in korea, I recommend Number two.

 

 

 

Do you want to experience it?

Actually it's very easy. In korea, in every popular mountain tourist spots there are some sellers of pupa.

The nearest place in Daejeon city is "Daecheong Dam". (대청댐)

 

 

 

It's very cheap. 3,000won (3$) per one cup.

Actually many scientist say that pupa is very good for our health. (preventing diabetes ..)

You don't have to worry about sanitation. Because they are all boiled for a long time in salty water.

The taste is so good. ~~  :D
