Daejeon City One-day Trip Itinerary (Good places to go) for expat in Korea

2019. 8. 10. 19:00

---  I'm a Korean.  Sorry for my poor English writing~  :)  ---

Whenever my friend comes to Daejeon city, I'm worring about where to go with for him.

Even though I'm living in Daejeon city, it's not easy for me to recommend good places to visit in Daejeon.

There are some famous places in Daejeon.

But if we go actually, it's not so cool ...  :-(

The famous places in and around Daejeon are

Mountain Gyeryong (계룡산), Mountain Gyejok (계족산),

Mountain Jangtae Recreational Forest (장태산휴양림),

Daecheong Dam (대청댐), Family Tree Park (뿌리공원),

O-World (오월드), Yuseong Spring (유성온청).

Mountain Gyeryong is famous but it's not so special. It's just a mountain.

If you don't like to hike mountain, it's no meaning to you.

In case of Mountain Jangtae Recreational Forest, our president Mun-Jaein visited there in 2018.

So it's famous. But that's all. Nothing more.

Daecheong Dam is just a dam,

Family Tree Park is a small park which they display something about Korean family trees.

O-world is the small version of Everland which is the biggest amusement park in Korea.

In case of Yuseong Spring, people say the spring water is famous there.

But if you want to enjoy the spring water, you have to go into a public bathroom.  :-)

WTF. It's very ridiculous.

So, in my own way,

I chose some good places to go with my friend in Daejeon city.

1) Expo Plaza + Hanbat Arboretum (엑스포광장 + 한밭수목원)

2) Euneujeongi Street (으느정이 문화의 거리)

1) Expo Plaza + Hanbat Arboretum (엑스포광장 + 한밭수목원)

Expo Plaza (Expo square) is a very popular place in Daejeon.

There are so many people on weekends.

So many people work out there because bicycle riding track was built well by city goverment.

You can rent a normal bicycle or a family bicycle which all family members get on together.

That place is very good to hang around with your friend briefly.

Expo Plaza has a large mobile roof (shade) facility, which is a great place to relax.

They made an outdoor theater in the middle of the square.

Occasionally some events such as plays and contests are held in.

Right behind the Expo square, there is "Hanbat Arboretum".

If you go there in spring, you can enjoy colorful flowers.

Next to the Expo square is a small "tropical botanical garden".

It's not big but it's good to take a look around.

Expo square, Hanbat Aboretum, Botanical Garden are free of charge.

You can search for this place easily on Google Maps. (Click below)

2) Euneujeongi Street (으느정이 문화의 거리)

"Euneujeongi Street" is just a downtown in Daejeon city.

Even though they made a car-free street like Myeong-dong in Seoul and made an LED roof.

The thing is it's nothing special.

But, if you go to this place, you can hang around well with your friend.

Because there are so many restaurants, coffee shops, amusement facilities, shopping malls and street foods.

Inside the street is a famous bakery "Seongsim-Dang"(성심당) in Daejeon.

There are so many kinds of rare breads. If you like bread, this is a good place.

The famous breads here are "chives bread" and "fried soboro bread".

If you come here on weekends, you would be stuck in traffic.

There are so many people here on weekends.   :-)

On the way from Daejeon station to Euneujeongi Street, there is "Jung-ang Market".

It is probably the largest traditional market in Daejeon.

Mostly there are a lot of street foods in traditional market.

It's fun to wander around the market and buy some tempura or chinese pancakes.

The approximate location is below.

You can get off at Daejeon station and walk around there.
