지구온난화, 2019년 UN 기후행동 정상회의 연설, 그레타 툰베리 (영한 자막 번역)

2019년 UN Climate Action Summit (기후행동 정상회의) 에서 스웨덴의 16살소녀 그레타툰베리(Greta Thunberg)가 아주 강렬한 연설을 합니다.

주제는 "네가 감히 겁대가리 없이~".

"지구가 곧 멸망하게 생겼는데, 정신 못차리십니까?" 라는 내용입니다.

 

 

This is all wrong.
이건 모두 잘못되었습니다.

I shouldn't be up here.
제가 여기 올라와 있으면 안됩니다.

I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean.
저는 대서양 건너편에 있는 학교에 돌아가 있어야 합니다.

Yet, you all come to us young people for hope?
그런데, 여러분은 우리 청년들에게 희망을 바라며 왔다구요?

How dare you?
감히 어떻게 그럴 수 있죠?

You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.
여러분은 헛된 말들로 내 꿈과 어린시절을 훔쳐갔습니다.

And yet I'm one of the lucky ones.
하지만, 전 운이 좋은 사람들 중에 한명입니다.

People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing.
사람들이 고통받고, 사람들이 죽고 있습니다. 생태계 전체가 붕괴되고 있습니다.

We are in the beginning of a mass extinction.
우리는 대멸종이 시작되는 시점에 있습니다.

And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.
그런데, 여러분이 하는 얘기라고는 돈과 영원한 경제성장에 대한 동화같은 이야기 뿐입니다.

How dare you?
감히 어떻게 그럴 수 있죠?

For more than 30 years, the science has been crystal clear.
30년이 넘는 세월동안, 과학은 분명했었습니다.

How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you are doing enough 
when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight.
어떻게 감히 외면하고 있다가 여기와서 여러분들은 충분히 하고 있다고 말하고 있는거죠?
필요한 정치와 해결책들이 여전히 어디에도 보이지 않는데요.

You say "You hear us and that you understand the urgency."
여러분들은 "우리말을 듣고 있고 긴급함을 이해하고 있다."고 말합니다.

But no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that.
하지만 내가 아무리 슬프고 화나도, 그걸 믿고 싶지 않습니다.

Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act
then you would be evil and that I refuse to believe.
왜냐하면, 만약 여러분이 정말로 상황을 이해하면서도 여전히 행동하지 않고 있다면,
여러분은 아마 악마일 것이고 그래서 저는 믿지 않습니다.

The popular idea of cutting our emissions in half in 10 years only gives us a 50% chance of staying 
below 1.5 degrees and the risk of setting off irreversible chain reactions beyond human control.
요즘 인기있는 앞으로 10년동안 배출량을 반으로 줄이자는 의견은 
1.5도 (상승) 이하, 인간이 감당할 수 없는 돌이킬수 없는 연쇄반응이 시작될 위험 아래로 머물게 확률을 50%만 줄 뿐입니다.

50% may be acceptable to you.
50% 는 여러분이 받아들일 수 있을지도 모릅니다.

But those numbers do not include tipping points, most feedback loops, additional warming hidden by toxic air pollution nor the aspect of equity and climate justice.
하지만, 이 수치들은 최고정점, 대부분의 피드백 루프, 유독 대기오염에 의해 숨어있는 추가적인 온난화를 포함하지 않고 있고, 평등과 기후정의의 측면도 포함하지 않고 있습니다.

They also rely on my generation sucking hundreds of billions of tons of your CO2 out of the air with technologies that barely exist.
거의 존재하지 않는 기술을 가지고 대기중에 여러분들이 뿜어댄 수천억톤의 CO2를 제거하는 임무를 우리 세대에게 떠넘기고 있습니다.

So a 50% risk is simply not acceptable to us. We who have to live with the consequences.
그래서 50% 위험은 간단히 받아들일 수 없습니다. 여러분들이 싼 똥을 안고 살아가야 하는 우리들은 말이죠.

To have a 67% chance of staying below 1.5 degrees of global temperature rise, the best odds given by the IPCC,
the world had 420gt of CO2 left to emit back on January 1st 2018.
지구온도 1.5도 상승이하로 유지하는, IPCC에 의해서 제기된 최상의 확률인 67%를 얻기위해서는,
세계가 2018년1월1일 기준으로 배출할 수 있는 이산화탄소의 양은 420기가톤 이었습니다.

Today that figure is alreary down to less than 350gt.
지금은 수치가 이미 350기가톤 이하로 줄어들었습니다.

How dare you pretend that this can be solved with just business as usual and some technical solutions?
여러분들은 어떻게 감히 이게 보통때처럼 단지 비즈니스와 몇몇 기술솔루션으로 해결될 수 있는 척 할 수 있습니까?

With today's emissions levels, that remaining CO2 budget will be entirely gone within less than 8 and a half years.
현재의 방출수준으로는, 남아있는 CO2 방출가능양은 앞으로 8년반정도면 다 없어질 겁니다.

There will not be any solutions or plans presented in line with these figures here today.
현재 여기에서 이런 수치들과 연관되어 제시될 어떤 해결책이나 계획도 앞으로도 없을겁니다.

Because these numbers are too uncomfortable and you are still not mature enough to tell it like it is.
왜냐하면 이런 수치들은 매우 불편한 것이고, 여러분은 사실을 있는 그대로 말할 만큼 충분히 성숙하지 않았기 때문입니다.

You're failing us.
여러분은 우리를 실망시키고 있습니다.

But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal.
하지만 젊은이들은 여러분의 배신을 이해하기 시작했습니다.

The eyes of all future generations are upon you.
모든 미래 세대들의 눈이 여러분한테 향해 있습니다.

And if you choose to fail us, I say we will never forgive you.
그리고 만약 여러분이 우리를 실망시키는 쪽으로 선택한다면, 여러분을 절대로 용서하지 않을 겁니다.

We will not let you get away with this.
이러고도 무사히 넘어가도록 놔두지 않을 겁니다.

Right here right now is where we draw the line.
바로 지금 여기가 우리가 선을 긋는 지점입니다.(더이상은 참지 못합니다)

** 2019년 기준 8년 정도 남았다는 얘기는 툰베리의 개인의견이 아니라 과학계에 널리 알려진 사실입니다.

   이 글을 쓰고 있는 2020년 현재는 7년정도 남았습니다.

   7년동안 줄이지 못하면, 1.5도 상승 -> 인간의 힘으로 더이상 대응불가 -> 연쇄반응 -> 30~40년후 인류멸망
